Muffs are such a ridiculous accessory. They seem like a holdover from Imperial Russia, when ladies had to have some way of keeping their delicate little hands warm and, let’s face it, they weren’t going to be using their hands for much of anything anyway. As a twentieth century accessory, however, they’re utterly pointless -- a thing you would spend more time lugging about than actually using. They’re akin to girdles, fans, veils and crinolines – i.e., a way of making women look like fools while at the same time impeding their ability to move about freely. YET ANOTHER WAY MEN HAVE TRIED TO KEEP WOMEN IN THEIR PLACE! I’m gonna go burn my bra. Then I’m gonna get an abortion. Then I’m gonna join the army. Then I’m gonna be shipped off to Iraq. Then I’m gonna be really, really, really scared.
