We had some pet guinea pigs when I was a kid.  I don't remember much about them other than that they were huge, not at all soft, and not at all friendly.  I didn't really get the point.  I don't know the difference between gerbils, hamsters and guinea pigs, but I think the vitally important critter in this card is a hamster.  Below, for your viewing pleasure, are a squirrel and a raccoon.
